Cameron Courtney Marshall grew up in Agawam, Massachusetts, the oldest of three children. He attended Saint Thomas School in West Springfield and graduated with the Saint Mary High School Class of 2012 in Westfield. A natural athlete, Cam played lacrosse, soccer, basketball, and golf. He also loved adventure and the outdoors, which inspired him to join the United States Army after graduation.
Among his many accomplishments, Cameron was most proud of serving as an Airborne Soldier with the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg. His final duty assignment was as a paralegal in the National Capital Region at the Pentagon, where he traveled often to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in support of the mission against terrorism.
Tragically, on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, Cameron died by suicide. He was 27 years old. As a veteran, he faced a 57% higher risk of suicide than his civilian peers. His passing left a profound void but also a call to action.
To honor his life, the Cameron Courtney Marshall Memorial Foundation was established. Each year, family, friends, and supporters gather to play golf and celebrate Cam’s legacy while raising funds to support veteran service organizations and military families. Proceeds from past tournaments have benefited the Cameron Marshall Scholarship at Saint Mary High School and organizations including Mission 22, Stop Soldier Suicide, TAPS as well as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
To carry on Cameron’s spirit of service, the co-founders created the Elpis Alliance for Veterans. Its mission is to protect veterans, strengthen families, and ensure Cameron’s legacy endures as a force for hope in the fight against suicide.
The 2026 beneficiaries include the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center in Gardner, MA as well as the Sleep Savant Program presented by the Elpis Alliance for Veterans and the Cameron Marshall Scholarship at Saint Mary High School.
With gratitude from the Marshall family and the Elpis Alliance, thank you for honoring Cameron and supporting this mission.
